Creating crystal clear, safe swimming pool water requires constant attention.  Swimming is only fun if the water is completely clean and sparkling, and preferably does not have chemicals in it.   After all, everyone knows that chlorine in swimming pool water can cause considerable eye and respiratory irritation.  Naturally, clean swimming water is an absolute precondition for a carefree swimming experience for children and people with sensitive skins or allergies.  Add the Starline Ionisator and Ozonator.

Swimming Pool Pumps

The modern pumps and motors have revolutionized and advanced their technology for the past decades.  By design and performance, most pumps today are rated according to low, medium and high headed.  The older pumps and motors do not have the same performance as the new models today.

The new models perform better, and are geared to save energy too.  The common mistake by most pool owners when they replace their old pumps is their tendency to use larger pumps perhaps to increase the pumps efficiency.  If you are replacing an older one horsepower pump, today’s new model equivalent is only a ¾ HP pump.

In over sizing your pump, the water gets broken down causing the pump to cavitate, becomes noisy and loses its prime stability. This can cause damage to the pump and possibly you’re plumbing system.  If your swimming pool, spa or water feature is plumbed with the 2 inches suction lines, then you can safely use higher horsepower pumps, but if your system incorporates a 1.5 inches suction line, then you would be advised to stay on the low horsepower range.  Pressure builds up on a 1.5 inches suction line much higher than the 2 inches suction line.

Another consideration on buying a pump for your swimming pool is by knowing the distance between your pool pump and your swimming pool.  The further the distance, the higher the required horsepower it needs.  Make sure to install 2 inches plumbing suction lines between the pool and the equipment when using a higher horsepower pump.In replacing your pump, it is also important to know if you have an attached spa where the pump you are replacing is for spa jets too.  If so, select a larger horsepower pump but provide the 2 inches in diameter plumbing suction line.  This will make a big difference in your operations.

If your suction lines are 1.5 inches and you have a T connector before the pump, this is equivalent to 3 inches plumbing line, which means it can withstand a higher horsepower pump as replacement.  The T connector distributes the water pressure at the T junction and lowers the pressure on the single line leading to your swimming pool.

The safety issues on installation; if you are installing a large horsepower pump on a spa and the suction from the main drain make sure that you have the correct main drain cover (anti-vortex) to prevent accidents.  The cover if not fitted properly can cause accidents it may release the cover due to high pressure.

The features of the new modern pumps include; lower operating cost, less horsepower required to produce needed water flow, even when used in pool/spa combinations and when operating in-floor cleaning systems.  They are extremely quiet in operation documented in rigorous ETD tests.  They have patented oversized basket that reduces cleaning frequency.  They have high–efficiency impeller that maximizes water flow.  They are equipped with life-extending diffuser wear-ring that prevents uneven impeller wear.  It is made of thicker seal plate that withstands loss of prime conditions.

These modern pumps are engineered to provide optimum performance in a complete range of installations, including pool/spa combinations.  It operates suction side, pressure side, and in floor cleaning systems, sand filters, diatomaceous earth filters, and cartridge filters.   They offer the lowest electrical consumption.  To circulate more water in less time and at the lowest cost, choose quiet, reliable new pump models today.

A lot of people who have pools are now starting to search for insight on how to close their pools correctly.  Any pool closing checklist or resources will tell you to only lower the water below the skimmer level and the jets so that all of the plumbing lines are clear and don’t face the risk of freezing and bursting.  Each of these different resources also tells you no to drain the pool completely unless you are taking it down for storage, if it is a small pool that is easy to set up and tear down.

What about larger pools?  Why leave water in them at all? It will be bad next spring, after all. Actually that is not really the case.  If you drain a pool entirely, you are putting the whole liner at risk for rips, tears, and other damage from debris throughout the winter months, not to mention that the liner will dry out, shrinks and crack.  With some water left behind, you at least have something to stop the pool from getting torn up regardless of the winter weather that you are experiencing.  The pool cover that you choose will impact how much water you leave your pool beyond lowering it to the skimmer lines, of course, so that’s something that you have to think about, as well. Maintain your pool well after all it is quite an investment.
